Downloading GIMP fonts?

Well, I need some help with fonts for gimp...
I need help knowing:
a. what is a good site where I can get fonts compatible with Gimp?
b. how do I download the fonts and put them up onto Gimp?

I know in gimp you need to go to edit>>>preferences>>>folders>>>fonts.
But whenever I open up a font it won't let me choose the file! Please help!
